What defines comfort food? Obviously the answer to this question is subjective, and for me, its a combination things.
- Warmth: weather this is in a beverage or a food, consuming a hot bowl of soup, or drinking a hot cup of coffee or tea. The warmth in that makes me feel all cozy and secure. The feeling of being secure is the key!
- Familiarity; I think most of us take comfort in what is familiar; what is home. That comfortable feeling of home isn’t relegated to your house. Home can be found in a person, a place, or a thing such as comfort food.
- Nostalgia: Finally, good memories of the past are powerful vehicles that transport us back to those times when we experienced positivity, comfortableness, and of being safe and secure. For me, the smell of baking bread or cookies instantly takes me back to what I perceived as simplicity and security.
My favorite comfort food has to be ramen noodles! And not just a plain ole bowl of noodles, but one that has spices, onions, jalapeños, chilis, curry, omg I’m getting so hungry thinking about it! 😂
